Basic information

Fonts and utilities

Dan Smith’s Fantasy Fonts
Daniel Smith has created a number of Tengwar fonts. He also provides very detailed information about the writing system, in particular in the help file for the fonts.
KTT : KDE Tengwar Tool
A transcription utility (Roman-to-Tengwar and Tengwar-to-Roman) for the Linux KDE environment, fully compatible with TengScribe mode files as well as the TMF format introduced with the YaTT utility.
Las Tengwar de Fëanor
Home of two nice original Tengwar fonts: Tengwar Elfica,a font reminiscent of the characters in the Tengwar table in AppE; and Tengwar Gothika, a very interesting black-letter styled font.
online Tengwar Transcriber
A very good online transcription tool that makes use of the same mode files as TengScribe. Supports a number of modes, fonts and output formats. Also available in Polish.
Tengwar Annatar
A beautiful freeware font family, consisting of four Tengwar fonts.
Tengwar Cursive
A nice freeware Tengwar font, based on the ring-inscription style, is downloadable from the site of its maker.
Tengwar Formal
A good-looking freeware font based on the formal book-hand.
Tengwar Hereno
A Bauhaus-style Tengwar font.
Tengwar Naive
From the creator of Tengwar Annatar, a simple but nice-looking Tengwar Font.
Tengwar Telcontar
The first quality Unicode font geared towards good Tengwar support. The creator of the font hopes “that the possibilities of working with a usable font will spur the discussion on the best way to encode Tengwar in Unicode, and that, with the help and suggestions from fellow Tolkiendili, my font will evolve in a gradually improving manner.” The font makes use of the Graphite technology for smart font behaviour, and thus needs special word processors in most environments.
Tengwar Teleri
Something as unusual as a “fantasy” Tengwar font, where the tengwar look like swans.
YaTT Lite
A MacOS X utility, apparently a “lighter” version of the old Windows application YaTT. This is what I wrote of that program: YaTT, or Yet another Tengwar Tool, is a Windows utility that transcribes from Roman letters to Tengwar — and back! It is fully compatible with TengScribe mode files.
